Tape - the all purpose toy

Sierra and Ella have been sick,

which means Porter has been finding new interesting things to do.

Last night I put Sierra to bed at 7:30, the house was quiet and I ended up falling asleep too.

At 8:30 I woke up and found this...

Apparently Porter had not been sleeping

More Staycation

Arizona Science Center

Jeremy's sister's family came.
Almost immediately Porter was requesting to go on a "family lizard hunt" - I don't know where he gets these ideas.

Kaiden and Porter were great little buddies, even though they are 11 years apart in age. The best was when Kaiden, Uncle Chris, and Porter were deliberating whether to go play catch, or go lizard hunting. Kaiden suggested to play catch while they were lizard hunting.

To which Porter replied, "Yeah, Yeah, you catch the lizard and then throw it to me and I'll throw it back to you!"

Porter's "pet worms"

He insisted they were real.
He put them in this container with a rounded bottom, which meant there was no way to set it down anywhere.

Luckily, I had a smart Mommy moment and rested it on this little cap that normally goes on our springy door stoppers. (You know the little white things kids always chew on?)

This was much to the relief of Aunt Shelly who had been faithfully holding onto it at Porter's request.

Visiting the Canyon

Diamondback spring training game. Can you say, hottest day of the year so far!!

The petting/feeding zoo. Poor Porter got bitten on the finger by an Ostrich.
And...
My kids kept spilling their Nectar for the birds, driving me crazy!

San Xavier Mission - beautiful!

We love you Chris, Shelly, Kaiden, and Kally. Thanks for coming to visit us - we miss you! We miss playing screwy Luey and sippin' Diet Coke with a lemon wedge until midnight!

Fashionista

"Porter, if you want to come with Sierra and Me to the bus stop you need to get some shoes on right away."

...Then at the bus stop I saw this

One Cleat (on the wrong foot)
One hulk slipper
and a sock on only one foot

Love it!

Staycation Days 2 and 3: Desert Camping

Jeremy and the kids love to go camping and I love... well, making them happy - so I go too. Only this time I got the best of both worlds. I took Ella back home at night and we slept at home while Jeremy and the kids camped over night. Secretly - no longer a secret - I was glad Ella gave me an excuse to go back home and sleep in my nice warm bed.

Note to self: if you don't want the kids to whine when hiking - play detective and superheroes during the hike. It will make them feel like they are playing and not hiking.

"I'm just along for the ride - Daddy is my pack-mule"

Staycation Day 1: A Family Bike Ride Gone Awry

Since Jeremy had 2 weeks off, and our home town is more beautiful this time of year than anywhere else in the world (ok - at least anywhere we can afford to go) we decided to have a "Staycation."

Fun family activity - day 1

We decided to have a family bike ride to the pizza place about 2 miles down the road (note: bike riding offsets the calorie intake of pizza). There, we would bring our pizza to a nearby grassy knoll and bond while the children play, the birds chirp, and life is wonderful. Good idea right?

In theory, yes. Unfortunately realty failed to inform us that Sierra would whine and complain almost non-stop about how her bike was riding crooked and make several attempts to dismount it and give up. We also were not ready for the impact the anticipation of "yummy pizza ahead" would have on Mommy's and Daddy's patience. Thus, the ride there fell somewhat short of our dream of domestic bliss. (Note: Porter and Ella did splendidly)

I don't have a picture of how the ride started, but imagine Mom, Dad, Sierra, and Porter all on our own bikes with Ella in the trailer....

The following pictures show how we all looked after the ride back home. You can deduce what conclusions we came to after our pizza was finished.
